We know that booking a trip — especially one you're taking on your own — comes with a lot of questions. That's completely reasonable, and we'd rather answer them upfront than have you wonder.

Group travel is a little different from booking a trip on your own, and if you haven't done it before, it's natural to want to know exactly what you're signing up for. What does the group dynamic actually feel like? Who are the other women? What if the pace doesn't suit me? What's really included, and what isn't? These are the right questions to ask, and they're the ones we hear most often.

Below you'll find honest answers to everything we get asked before someone books — from logistics and packing to payments and what happens if a trip doesn't fill. If something's still missing after you've read through, just reach out. That's what we're here for.

Who is Unscheduled for?
Unscheduled is designed for women over 50 who want to travel — really travel — without having to organize every detail themselves or compromise with a group that moves too fast or too slow. You don't need a travel companion, a high fitness level, or any prior group travel experience. You just need to want to go.

Is this a tour?
Not exactly. We're not a tour operator with a packed schedule and a flag to follow. Unscheduled is a curated small-group experience — think of it as traveling with a well-organized group of friends who happen to have a really good plan. Days have structure where it matters and space where it doesn't. You'll have genuine free time built in, not just gaps between activities.

How many women travel together?
Every Unscheduled trip is limited to six to eight women. That's intentional. Small enough to get a table anywhere, move at a reasonable pace, and actually get to know the people you're traveling with. Never a tour bus, never a name tag.

Do I have to share a room?
Never. Every traveler has her own private room at every stop on every trip. Full stop.

What if I've never traveled internationally before?
You're in good company — many of our travelers are doing this for the first time, or the first time on their own. The whole point of Unscheduled is to make international travel feel manageable, not overwhelming. The logistics are handled; you just have to show up.

What kind of physical shape do I need to be in?
You don't need to be athletic, but you should be comfortable walking for a few hours at a stretch on uneven surfaces. Most of our destinations involve cobblestone streets, hills, or terrain that isn't flat — good walking shoes matter more than fitness level. Each trip page includes specifics on what to expect physically for that destination.

What's included in the trip price?
Each trip page has its own detailed inclusions list, because it varies by destination. As a general rule, you can expect: accommodations for the full trip, private transportation between destinations, select group meals (welcome dinner, farewell dinner, and a handful more), and guided experiences where they add the most value. Flights are not included — you book your own so you have flexibility on routing and timing.

What's not included?
International flights, personal spending, meals outside the included group meals, and any optional activities you choose to add on your own. Travel insurance is also not included, but we strongly recommend it — more on that below.

Do I need travel insurance?
We don't require it, but we'd feel irresponsible not recommending it. Travel insurance covers things like flight delays that cause you to miss a connection, medical emergencies abroad, and unexpected cancellations. It's a modest cost relative to the trip, and it's the difference between a bad day and a financial disaster. Shop around — there are good options at a range of price points.

How does booking work?
Once you've found a trip you're interested in, reach out through the inquiry form on that trip's page. We'll confirm availability, answer any remaining questions, and walk you through the next steps. A deposit secures your spot, with the remaining balance due in installments before departure. Full payment details are provided at booking.

What's the cancellation policy?
Deposits are non-refundable. The closer to departure you cancel, the less of your total payment is recoverable — this is standard across the travel industry and reflects the commitments we've made on your behalf to hotels, guides, and transportation providers. Full cancellation terms are outlined at booking. This is another reason travel insurance is worth having.

What happens if a trip doesn't fill?
If we don't reach the minimum number of travelers needed to run a trip as planned, we'll let you know well in advance — enough time to make other plans — and any payments made will be fully refunded. We won't leave you scrambling.

Can I extend my trip before or after the group dates?
Yes, and we can help with that. Many travelers add a few days on either end to explore on their own or recover from jet lag before the group arrives. Let us know when you reach out and we'll point you in the right direction.

How do I stay in touch with the group before the trip?
Once your spot is confirmed and the trip is finalized, we'll connect the group so you can get acquainted before you're all arriving at the same hotel. Details on how that works are shared at booking.
